Integrative Manual Therapeutics

Trying to describe one of Bob’s treatments is sort of like trying to describe you! You are completely unique, in the world and in each moment. You are more complex than most people can realize, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and you are constantly evolving in response to changes in your world. Yet your essence, your Wholeness, is simple, pure and complete.

Bob’s treatment seeks to bring the “complexity” into deeper integration with the Wholeness, so the wisdom within you can create the most elegant solution to the challenges that arise from trauma or imbalance. We can then experience deep, long lasting wellbeing and freedom from the pain caused by such imbalance!

What is Integrative Manual Therapeutics?

Integrative Manual Therapeutics is the livelong body of work of Bob DeLuca. Bob’s work is based on a deep relationship with the body’s natural healing wisdom, and an ability, gained from decades of training, innovation and clinical practice, to communicate with that wisdom, and guide it toward healing on a profound level.

How does it work?

Bob uses a variety of specific diagnostic techniques to assess mobility of the body in every scale, from whole body, to individual vertebrae, organs, joints, etc…down to the tiniest nerve, blood vessel or brain structure. Where mobility is limited, function could be impaired. 

Sometimes, symptoms manifest at a distance to the limitation. For instance, headaches can come from hip dysfunction that pulls on the spinal cord. Frozen shoulder can result from lung, rib or liver restriction. The tissue can also be restricted right where the symptoms are felt, but for some reason has not yet resolved with other treatments. Bob’s specific approach to assessing the whole of the situation will seek to find if the problem lies primarily in the nerve, bone, joint capsule, muscle, etc… And the treatment will be tailored to that instance. 

If you have not yet had success with treatment of your condition thus far , you may find Bob has a different way of seeing your situation, and after treatment, you may find yourself surprised by how easy and deep the transformation can be!

 Bob is truly incredible, and has an amazingly gentle spirit. I brought my five year old son in to work with Bob because my son was having severe emotional delay. He was still in preschool due to his outbursts and lack of self-regulation. My son had undergone a lot of trauma (birth trauma, in particular) because he had a life-threatening heart condition. He had two open-heart surgeries as an infant, and that was just the start. We were also concerned about a possible brain injury from the heart and lung machine during his surgeries. I became desperate for help as my son's behavior/rage was rather extreme, and I suddenly met Bob. My son is extremely shy, and he hugged me the whole session, but he allowed Bob to touch his head and do the work. Surprisingly, my son must have liked it because he was content to let Bob work on his head for a long time. I do consider my son a more severe case, so the fact that only a handful of sessions have turned his life around, and our family's life, is astounding. My son only improves by leaps and bounds. Bob is able to work on all levels of the human being (spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically) all at once. It's visible and tangible healing. Bob is truly astounding with children, and I already recommend him to everyone. 

He is also incredible with adults. I have gone in for a session, as well as my husband and we saw amazing results, too, in just one session. His work is magic. I truly believe that Bob's mission is genuine healing and service to others.

Words can't explain what Bob can do - which is why it's taken me four months to finally write this. I came to Bob with a chronic left upper back and neck tightness and pain. I've had it for over a decade, knowing that most of why it's chronic is emotional. Nevertheless, I didn't seek Bob for talk therapy but as he worked on my back, I could feel my emotional blockages naturally arise. I always felt supported and safe to say what I needed to say with Bob. A couple times I dozed off as he helped me lean into and release my tension. Again, words can only do so much to describe how much Bob has helped me. You'll have to go in and work with him yourself to find out!

I call him Magic Bob, I have no idea what he does, it's not any kind of normal massage, but it's the most effecting treatment I've had after 10 years of diligent effort finding a solution to my issues. And it seems like it is not just temporary relief like normal massage or chiropractic (or yoga or exercise or....) It is the most expensive treatment I've tried but I keep going back because it works and I feel it's addressing my health issues in a deeper and more permanent way, so after wasting years and thousands of dollars on cheaper but less effective treatments I consider it to be a better value in the long run.  I came to Maui in very bad shape. I had been in car accidents in 2004 & 2006. Both times I injured my lumbar disc L5-S1, severely. After the 2006 accident/injury, they told me there was nothing they could do. That I was permanently disabled. I had many "treatments". Including, but not limited to, cortisone shots, steroid injections, physical therapy, & tons of medications. I had become so depressed & even sick, due to all of it. I would walk on a cane most of the time & I was always in pain. I didn't want to take the medication anymore & I was searching for a solution. FAQ

1) What is a session like?

Sessions are as varied as the people receiving them. Overall, treatment usually gentle and relaxed, while precise and focused . You may be asked to move occasionally, and you may drift off into a deep state of rest, even while feeling alert. You might be in an almost dreamlike state, and all of a sudden remember a challenging event or feeling from a long time ago, and notice, perhaps for the first time, how it relates to your present condition. Without effort, you observe as you reorganize your relationship to it, as your body lets it go.

2) What do I wear to a treatment?

All sessions are done fully clothed. It’s best to wear something that is comfortable and flexible, not too tight or restraining.

3) Wait, did you say you work on the brain?

Actually, I didn’t! But now that you mention it, I do work on the brain! Working on the brain is a remarkable advancement in the Osteopathic Cranial field, developed by the renowned physician Bruno Chikly. Taking what has been learned from a century of Cranial Osteopathy (sometimes called CranioSacral Therapy), and expanding the scope of the work to include not just the bones, membranes, and fluids, but also the neuronal structures, blood vessels, recently discovered glymphatic system, and more. Working in this way, we can help resolve everything from nerve problems, deep musculoskeletal issues, allergies, sensory motor issues, vertigo, tinnitus, cranial nerve problems, sleep problems, etc….think of all the things the brain is involved with!

4) How can bodywork help allergies?

Recent advances led by Dr. Chikly have demonstrated an ability to manually balance the connection between allergic responses, the brain, and the immune system. This may signify a revolution in the treatment of allergies. Whether the allergy is to foods, plants, environmental factors, or problems with toxins like mold (a response to which is not allergic, but a normal response to a toxin), these autoimmune overcompensatory measures, when treated properly, often resolve permanently after 1 to 3 treatments

5) How many treatments does it take for me to get better? 

There have been many instances where all major symptoms are gone in one session. It seems helpful to continue treatment once a month or a few times per year, as the body creates compensatory mechanisms that sometimes need to be renormalized over time.

Not every condition responds completely in one session, but almost everyone will feel some sort of result. It is very unusual to not see clear results within three treatments. 

6) Are you an Osteopathic Physician/ D.O.?

No. I studied Osteopathic Manual Therapy in Canada, and pursue continued education in the US. I did not attend Medical School, and am not an Osteopathic Physician/D.O. I am licensed in California as a "Certified Massage Therapist" (CMT #60916).

7) Do you accept insurance?

Unfortunately, we cannot bill most health insurance. We can work with most auto and workers comp claims.
